I just purchased a 2000 Ford Ranger and I am going to flush the cooling system. Where is the radiator drain valve? On the bottom passenger side of the radiator, I see a plastic hex screw. Is this the drain valve, or not? I am a novice at auto maintenance/repair, and would appreciate any help.
Yeah, thats your drain valve.BE CAREFUL with it,it is plastic and will strip easily,so be sure you turn it the right way to loosen and don't over tighten it.I usually stick a small peice of hose on the end of it and drain it into a jug or pan so it does'nt run all over and make a mess.
Yeah, they snap off pretty easy. The hose thing sounds pretty cool. Next time ill have to do that instead of letting it run everywhere and try to get the pan under the biggest stream.
