Keyed

I was parked in my apartment parking lot, and someone decided they'd help out the paint job on my new truck by scraping all the way down the side of it with their keys. I dont think its all the way through the paint, just the clearcoat. Can i polish this out or am i looking at a new paint job. Any help would be appreciated.

That Sucks! Take it to the best, most expensive detail shop in town and see what can be done. Without seeing it, it's very hard to say. You'd be amazed what can be done these days to paint without painting. Good luck.

You can try to buff it out and see how it turns out depending on the pressure that they used. But you are probably looking at a new paint job.

Its too bad that it happened to you. I live at an apartment as well and everyone beside my truck gets keyed but luckily mine has never once been touched. If it were, I would really be mad.

The woe's of not owning a garage! That is my biggest fear even though I own a house with a garage I now know I won't be able to park my truck in it when it gets here due to a mistake I made not checking the height of the garage prior to ordering. well, we live next to the "Neighbors from H*ll", last month I caught their 13 year old punk throwing rocks at my Lab and Boxer. when i confronted his uncle (he's living with them cause his parents can't control him) he tells the uncle he didn't do it even though I'm standing there telling him I caught him in the act, he continued to deny it. well, this past saturday when we opened our garage we saw feet running away so we never got to see who was standing outside the garage. My wife's 04 Expy is parked outside in the driveway and when she opened the passenger door she said someone put a cigarette out on the door and left the remains (filter was still smoldering) I walked around in the direction I seen the feet go and guess where it lead me? right, the same punk hiding behind my other neighbors trashcan! I asked him to come with me and he walked away as if he didn't hear me in the opposite direction. so as any good neighbor would do, I walked over to his uncle's house and told his aunt what had just happened and she said if I seen him do it. no I seen his feet running in the opposite direction...... SHE TELLS ME IF I DIDN"T SEE HIM DO IT THEN IT WASN'T HIM! WHAT THE heck!!!!! knowing that I won't be able to park my truck in the garage is scaring me like crazy that this punk will take a key to it when it gets here. I'm SCREWED! we now are pricing out video servaillance camera's so I can call the cops and press charges but geeez the trouble I have to go through just to have piece of mind.

it should atleast be able to get touched up a little unless its down to the metal. what color truck is it?

hi.style i would hate to live near someone like that. i think its pretty safe in my neighborhood but i get worried at the mall, mostly about theft. my bmw did get keyed back in highschool it was white so i jsut filled it in with dried wax trucks too long for the garage anyways! i dont know how easy these are to steal but our other cars are bmws and i feel pretty safe letting those sit anywhere. when i drive the truck i always freak when i dont see it right away in the lot.

BBiffle, assuming you have full coverage insurance I would put in a claim. Even if they only scratched the clearcoat. Someone scratched the bed of my last truck in the same fashion and I claimed it with no problems.

Mine was keyed last Augest with less than 1000 miles on it. Down the entire passanger side fron to back. My insurance covered the repair and you cannot tell that it ever happened. I feel for you though. Good luck.

Lava, hmmmmm. that's a thought!

BBiffle, just make sure you're on good standing with some of your neighbors and people in your complex. post a warning in the lobby, stairway etc. that someone is going around keying cars. I bet one of two things will happen. more people would start to worry bout their cars and be on the lookout and or the culprit will be caught. sorry for your misfortune, hope it all works out.

ps. get professional guidance on the scratch. it may be simpler than a new paint job.

Hawaiian. I have a similar issue. there are some kids a couple of houses down and they sit in their front yard and shoot their BB gun all day, most of the time toward my house. I went over there two times and asked them ina polite way to shoot another direction. Its scary sitting in the yard and hearing BB's pinging off tree limbs and things in MY yard. Im not worried about the house or me, just my truck sitting in the drivway.
Anyways, I went out a couple of days ago and that stupid kid was shooting toward my house again. I yelled at him (not being polite) to stop, and he did, for about 5 mins. I went back out side again and he was doing it again. I RAN over there and grabbed his bb gun out of his hand and threw it on the ground, picked him up by the seat of his pants and carried him to his front door. I beat on the door and his mom came out. Im standing on the front porch holding her kid like a lunch basket. She asked what he had done this time and I explained to her. After explaining, I let him down and I havent seen him outside yet.
If I was you, I would catch him, whoop his butt with your belt and throw him on his front porch. I dont know where you live, but here in Kentucky, parents encourage other people to whip their kids if their acting up. My parents sure did when I was young.

I hear what your saying bout the kid with the bb gun. If it was my kid I would throw away the gun and solve the problem. However if you had marched up in my yard and handled my son in such a manner it would have been you I dealt with shortly after. You could have solved the problem just as easily by talking to the parents first. But I guess that depends on the parents.

Khen, I would like to do that but out here in Hawaii it's never that easy. we constantly say why can't we all just get along??? if that was the case, we wouldn't have wars today. Stupid People breed more Stupid People! it's a vicious cycle that we have to realize, whether we like it or not We are all stuck with them!

I feel for you guys, my truck has not suffered any keying as of yet but i have had some one slame there door in the side of my truck leaving a mark all the way threw to the paint. I also went on a trip a couple of weeks ago to virginia beach virginia and when i got back i noticed 3 little marks also all the way threw to the paint on the passenger side, right above the back wheel well. As all of u, i was furious. I used touch up on the door slaming but have not yet fixed the 3 spots. Thinking about seeing some pros on that sence they are higher up and more noticeable if I screw them up trying to use touch up. Some people just don't pay atention to what hey are doing, that drive me nuts !!!
