We just bought a 89 Ford Bronco XLT and the rear window will go down by the switch up front but will not go up using that switch. It will however go up if you use the key switch on the tailgate. The switch up front seems to work fine. It was tested for continuity. Any ideas how to fix our perplexing problem ?
Thanks for you help !!
I used to have the same ride 6 years ago and the same problem.
If I remember right I could beat on the key switch with my fist and then the swith on the dash would work.
Try taking off the cover on the tailgate and check the wiring there.
You can get continuity, but under load the wire won't carry the voltage to move the window. used to tick me off till I traced it down.
Hope this works.
Sorry my recolections of the electrical problems left me after I got my 95' E.B. Bronco
I had the same probz w/my '89 Beast ... I took my dash switch off and cleaned the contact point w/fine sand paper. Put it back on and wa'la ... it started working again. But later ... it stop again :O(. So I order a new switch ($20) thru JBG. http://broncograveyard.com/products/cat/20
Those switches are completely hosed. Get a new one and your problem will most likely go away. I had a similar problem with mine and the switch metered out fine for continuity. After I took it out I smashed it into a thousand little pieces. I think you can replace the switch for under $10. Good Luck!
I say new Dash switch. The way those or made, they control both the key, and the switch at the same time. There are two diff posts for both up and down. in netrual it hits the posts for the key switch, and when u move it, it should hit the other post for the dash switch, but it must be worn out.
Thank you everyone for your quick responses. We took the switch out and sanded the contacts and now it works ! We will be purchasing a new one so that we don't run into any more problems. Thanks again !!
