Disable Seat Belt Chime

Ok, I know I am going to get blasted by everyone about this post but hold on and read the full post.

I wear my seat belt. I know the value of it and I do wear it when I am on the road and I would do so even if it did not warn me.

However, I have a farm and I am often fiddling around with trailers or in and out trying to get situated. These are circumstances where I just do not wear the belt and do not need to as I am moving very slow and I am in and out of the vehicle, often with dirty hands. The warning chime drives me nuts.

I have read the manual and tried the procedure very carefully but have not been able to disable the warning chime. Has anyone been successful at disabling the seat belt warning chime permanently? If so, please provide steps as I have followed the steps in the owner's manual but with no luck.

Thanks for any help.

I havent tried it yet, but the chime drives me nuts. sometimes i wear my seat belt and sometimes i dont. The times i dont is when im just running around the neighborhood or launching a boat or going from the gym to my house which is 2 streets away. I know its illegal not to wear a belt and i am in law enforcement but this thing has to go, so as preacher said if anyone has been successful at doing this please respond.

I have not tried it on my F150 but on my ranger I did it. It does NOT disable the intial chimes when you start the truck, but the follow up chimes, every minute or however long they are apart, should be disabled.

the procedure is in the owners manual. You can even perform it for both driver and passenger seats.

That is what I am saying. I have performed the procedure several times with manual in hand but it does not seem to disable the chime. It does seem to delay it for several minutes but it soon starts back up.

Has anyone successfully disabled it following the procedure?

Dont know much about those new trucks but if you look in the fuse box you might see something that should help you.

oops sorry preacher. I didn't read the whole post (like you said to). The procedure in the manual worked for me - but you do have to perform it swiftly to get the steps complete in time.

Now I have a Lariat with captains chairs. Does anyone know if maybe it only works on captains and not on the split bench?

Sorry I can't be more help but I will go get my manual and type in the procedure anyway.

You may be dealing with something other than just a connection. Many mfrs are using a computer chip called FRAM. The chip determines if the seatbelt is on based on weight in the seat.

From what you say Preacher I am thinking that somehow you only did a one-time deactivation...but who knows?

OK here goes...
Perform this seperately for front driver and front passenger.

parking brake set
gear shift in PARK
ignition OFF
both front belts unbuckled

turn ignition to ON (DO NAT START)
wait until safety belt warning light on dash goes OFF (1 minute but feels like forever)

next step MUST be complet in under 50 seconds...

buckle and unbuckle seat belt 9 times, ending in unbuckled state.

now the airbag dash light will come on for 3 seconds

within 10 seconds of the airbag light turning on, buckle and unbuckle the belt one more time

BTW - this will also enable the buzzer if it is already disabled

hope this help - good luck

I do have the captains chairs and center shift. The manual says to have the vehicle off but the key position to on. Then it says to insert and remove the seat belt 9 times if I rember correctly. There was a little more to it as you had to wait for a light or something.

Anyway, if you can do it I should be able to accomplish as well. I will try again.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

I followed the procedure exactly by the book. I have the split bench and it worked for me. All that happens now is that the seat belt light will come on for about a minute but no chimes. Good Luck!

Just watch until the seat belt light comes on, wait for it to go off, the unbuckle the seat belt nine times within 50 seconds ( not too hard ) and when that number is reached, the airbag light will come on, wait for it to go off, then buckle and unbuckle and the airbag light will flash several times to verify the procedure. I did mine last night for both sides. But make sure that you have the emergency brake applied. I forgot the first time.
