I replaced the EGR valve along with some other stuff - more for PM than any other reason. Along the way I developed an exhaust leak that I couldn't find.
Turns out the pipe between the header and the EGR valve had cracked. That was fun to find because it was covered with a heat shield.
In addition, I found a vacuum hose that had a leak in it. It goes to the cruise control. I replaced the vac hose and fixed the EGR pipe leak.
Anyway, do I need to reset the timing?
The EGR should be closed at idle anyway so should it effect the timing? Since the idle and advance are controlled by the computer would the vac lead I found effect the timing / idle?
