Do you have a cam bearing installation tool? If not, its it best to have your machine shop install them prior to installing a new cam...My buddy has a cam removal tool that attaches to the front of the cam,,and you just twist it back and forth and pull and she should slide right out?
I made a cam install tool with a long (about 24")piece metal and a bolt welded to the end that fits in the cam. It helps to keep the cam level when pulling it out and installing the cam.
If you are going to replace the Cam bearings, I'd leave that to a machine shop. Might as well have them install the cam at that point.
Well Ford, Unless you have done it before...removal isnt to much of a problem, but you have to get a good hand on the cam..it wont fall out..So with that said..take it to the shop being how you dont have a cam tool..or a cam bearing insert tool, and have them do it... I have done many..and it still bothers me everytime I put in a new cam..and try not to nick the bearings as I insert the cam... If ya nick a bearing? it can ruin your whole day! Russ
Barry..Just force of habit for me..new cam new bearings... New cam, new lifters...I drop the pan..New oil pump!! just the way I am...know wonder im broke! LOL..russ
