What is it?

I was priming the oil pump on my 460 using a drill on the drive rod... at first nothing...then all the sudden oil went everywhere, shooting out of a threaded hole that is about 5/8"..

Looking at the driver's side of the engine it is to the right of where the mechanical fuel pump goes..about an inch from it.

What is this threaded hole for? I can't see it online or in any manuals.

Thanks in advance!

Its supposed to have a pipe plug in it.

Just remember to put some thread sealer on it.

Run a line from it to the sending unit to oil the engine better. This is easy to do and cheap and helps with oiling.

Not recommended. First, it's unnecessary for any engine running in the real world of anything near stock (like 650 HP). Second, it's a source of big trouble if the line should break. Copper and nylon lines are all prone to it.

Is this one of those plugs that's supposed to have tapered edges and only be so deep so as to not block the oil passage?

Purpose of the threaded hole...

I'll put a pipe plug in the threaded hole...

Does anyone know what the purpose of this hole is? External oil cooler?

Thanks

how far is your engine together? Do you have it in the truck with timing cover on? What year is the engine? and.... any chance of a picture? I was referring to the plugs that are under the timing cover and the rear of the engine that were made for oiling passages and then plugged. They say that these are supposed to have special tapered plugs and not squared of replacement plugs, but it doesn't sound like this is what your referring to.

Looks like its an "Oil Galley Crossover Port"

I found a picture on the web and pasted a copy in my gallery. Its a 351m in the picture and I have a 460, but its in the same place.

In the particular hole you are talking about, its a standard pipe plug.

I don't know what else it is for. I just know every 351M, 400, 460, I've messed with have them with a pipe plug in them.

Post Well Bill What is it?

I would do a search but Bill_Beyer our Mod, Has the answer.
Check Bill's gallery. It is a 400 with a hose from that hole to the back of the motor. Why I don't remember I read about it a while back.
Here is a link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...d=7569&width=0

I think I linked it right. Any way I would like to know if the 460 is the same.
