I'm considering getting a A/R .84 turbo housing for my truck. Hopefully to get the turbo to spool up quicker. Is this the right one for me? I don't plan on upgrading injectors and I use the truck for towing horse trailers around. Is this a good mod for towing power? Also I've had it in my mind that I won't get a chip till I get some gauges in but I wonder if its a must before the turbo upgrade? Any comments welcomed, thanks!
I run a 1.0AR housing and a chip, among other things. I also live very near sea level, in Seattle. I installed the 1.0AR housing to improve my trucks ability to generate boost at a lower rpm than the stock housing, so I could tow more easily. A side benefit for me is that my combination of turbo housing, chip, and propane allow me to make a bunch of power, without the need for an intercooler.
In my situation, the 1.0AR was the right choice, though I would also have been happy with the .84. At your altitude, especially if you tow a lot, the .84 would likely be the better choice for you. It wouldn't be necessary to have a chip to see a lot of improvement from the housing, but it would be much more substantial with a chip.
I hope this helps.
Oh yeah!
The smaller housing will cause the turbine to spin faster, which is why you get more boost at lower rpms, so you'll get proportionately more turbo sound.
'97 powerstroke. Won't start. Just quit like it ran out of fuel. anyone got any sugestions. I think it's fuel related. It hit a little with ether. Fuel pump or injection pump?

noluckatall. Welcome to the forums. Generally it is considered bad form to hijack someone else's thread with a completely unrelated question. You will also get more views if you start a new thread with an approiate "no start" type of title.
Also, do not ever use ether on a glow plug engine...makes things go boom. WD-40 works almost as well and is much less volatile.
As to your question, it sounds like the camshaft position sensor (CMP) failed.
Gts motorsports sells a .84 A/R and the1.0 A/R for the 94-97 strokers. Their sales page says that for stock injectors the .84 is the best option?.?........

I didn't know that. I wonder if it's a stock or aftermarket housing. Got a link to their site? I'd like to check on a 1.15 for a ballbearing turbo.
