460 headers question

Anyone know if there are any headers that will fit a 460 in a 77 f-350 4x4 with a manual trans? The only ones i can find are the L&L shorty ones part #20954 on broncograveyard. Unfortunatly these are on backorder for like 3 weeks, and are 400 bucks! So does anyone know of any other brands that would fit without hitting anything? Cheaper would be nice!

Thanks!

I know hooker headers make some for this application, not sure what the price is though. L&L also makes full length chassis exit headers for around $420 and full length fender well exit headers for like $385. The chassis exit headers make it a little difficult to run the exhaust on the drivers side due to where the collector ends up.(must run to pass. side before the trans cross member and then back over to the drivers side after the transfer case) Kinda wraps the transmission and transfer case with "HOT" exhaust pipes. I have these on my truck and see no mojor problem with these except for the 2 items mentioned above. It will make the engine coolant and trans fluid a bit hotter as well as the temp under the hood, compared to stock cast iron manifolds. The sound and performance impronements are well worth these two small problems (I believe). I have a couple of pics in my gallery of these headers installed on my truck (under hood pics) if you would like some of the exhaust pipes under the truck let me know and I will post them in my gallery too. Hope this helps!!

I've got a set on a 78 that I purchased while in NC and can't remember the parts store name. I had to order them and remember the cost, 150.00. Keep searching, they are out there.

Hey Swab78 - I am curious about your "77-F3504x4". I thought '79 was the first year for 4x4 in the 350. Not trying to be a smart-aleck- just interested in what you've got...

You need to remember on thing Orange, If you have the time the money and the knowlege you can make most any thing you want. The frames between the 350 and 250 are almost identical. Even if its not factory it is doable, and fun. Great stress reducer, or cause. It just depends.
P.S. Hooker Comps since 1999. No probs. 200 bucks

i ordered those headers (L&L) from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard about six weeks ago and was told 2-3 weeks then. i called again today and was told "about two or three weeks" don't plan on getting them any time soon. also Jeffs Bronco Graveyard is kind of lacking in the customer sevice department. don't bother going through them.

I am currently in the process of considering a swap from a 400 to a 460 in my 79 F250 4x4 with a T-18. Availabliity of headers is one of my major concerns. What I have found is the L&L's and the Hooker headers. The Chassis exit headers mentioned earlier have a footnote that they will not fit with a Dana 60 front, which is what I have, and the fenderwell exit headers are not attractive to me due to the reduction of tire clearance. I believe that the best alternative may be the shorty headers that L&L have. The L&L delivery issues mentioned in many posts does concern me though. If you make a choice on headers let me know what you chose and how they worked.

a follow up on those 3/4 length 460 swap headers. i called Jeffs again on sep 7th. they refered me to L&L again. i don't know why since i bought the headers from them not L&L. just for the record my idea of customer service isn't "heres the number, you can check on them yourself ". anyways i went ahead and called L&L myself, they told me they didn't know when they would have them done and to check through Jeffs next time. i took that as don't bother us any more. i called Jeffs right back and canceled the headers and got some other stuff i needed instead. if companys are going to advertise and sell things they should at least have them MADE first.

I don't have a 4x4, but I have Sanderson block huggers in my 460 '70 F250.
They fit well and have had no issues in 2 yrs.

460 headers

I've used the hooker headers the problem is they don't last in the winters here in michigan. If you were to buy a set get them coated. I've been using headman headers part # 89140 with the trucks I built with auto trans. They work fine with slight frame modifications.
