Thanks Silver for the info. Summit is showing the ff463 fitting down to '87 and the ff462 only for '48 to '52, but you are sure they are compatible on the '79?

Correction.. I think its the ff461 shorties is what ya want....I suggest calling Sanderson and speak to them directly. Do not email.. it's too easy to ignore.. a ringing telephone is hard to resist!
.. I'd still call them to verify since it says "53 and up"
Below is a response to this question:
"I have a 1978 Ford F250 4X4 with a T18 4-speed manual transmission. The bell housing is the same as the 351M / 400, so it is wider than the C6 automatic transmission especially at the starter location. Before I order these, I want to be sure they will fit this application. The 4X4 has large wide frame horns for the motor mounts.
Thanks."
.........."Please look at the header images and dimensions in the product description. The FF461 is onlynear the bellhousing or transmission area at the mounting point to the block, and the bellhousing would have to be considerably wider at the engine block to cause clearance issues. Obviously, the link below does not show a '78 F250, but it does show images of the FF461 and its relationship to the transmission. Additionally, if your truck is somehow unique (regarding the frame horns), trimming of the horns may be required. However, these headers have been installed on many F250 4x4 applications without issue.
