67 Shortbed

I have a super straight 67 F-100 shortbed. Right now it is without engine or tranny. My parts truck is a 76 F-100 with power disc brakes, power steering a decent 302 and 3 speed on the column. I have all the clutch linkage from both trucks and the 302 in the 76 is the origional engine. I would like to replace the 3 speed in the tree with a 5 speed overdrive unit from a 94 ford F-100. I have not researched this swap but I have been told that is not simple. Just what would it take to do it? Don't these newer units require a hydraulic clutch system? I don't want an automatic and would really like to stay away from the T-19 fourspeed. Can someone help me out with a good manual transmission decision?

You could put a T5 from a mustang in there and have a nice short throw when slamming the gears

I'm researching installing a hydraulic clutch setup and a ZF 5 speed in a 69, and it looks like I will have to use an 83-86 pedal assembly in a custom bracket to get it all right. I would stay far, far away from the mazda M5OD tranny, as that is incredibly weak. The T-5 is ok, but don't expect it to last long behind a modified engine, especially if you drive a bit hard. They have the nasty habit of loosing second gear if you don't shift just right. The ZF can be modified to use a rod linkage, as the earlier ones use an external slave cylinder. You may be able to make up a linkage that works, but it will take trial and error, and you may have to play with the length of the arms on the z-bar.
