i have 7000 miles on my truck and was thinking about using powerservice diesel kleen has anyone had any problems with this additive
I used it for 3000 miles; engine seems to run a little quieter; couldnt really distinguish a power difference. Helped the mileage by about half mile to the gallon. Be sure and get the stuff that boosts the cetane by 6 instead of 4.

Why? Unless you are getting really bad fuel, boosting the cetane by 6 isn't going to give you that much more benefit, if any. As I recall, the directions give you the proportions for boosting the cetane by both 3 and 6 points (grey bottle I think).

Well, my reasoning is that since it is the same price for either, I might as well get the most for the money. I believe you are right, the grey bottle is the 3-6 stuff and the white one is the 2-4.
I wasn't suggesting that there's no benefit from using the grey bottle stuff, just that there will probably be no benefit from using it in the proportion to boost 6 points.
thanks for the input i usd the 3 to 6 bottle i will see if it makes any differance with the way the truck runs. if it quites it down it will be a plus.
i use it, and have run at least 10 bottles through my truck.
starting, a bit faster.
noise, huh? same as it ever was, since i lost pi...
power, no difference
i use it for two reasons, first, i use arco fuel, ultra low sulfur only. (price, and location is why, plus they move a ton of diesel fuel.
second, i get 1.75-2.0 mpg better, consistantly!
i know no other person on this board, or personally that gets nearly 18mpg in a 4x4 with 33" tires on every single tank, let alone one that drives like me. i floorboard this thing 30 times a day....my commute is 139 miles per day, from nearly sea level, to 4000 feet above sea level.....
im sold on the stuff, my wife figured out we save about 2 bux the first fillup, and 7 on the second fillup per bottle....it costs 5.50 a bottle....9 bux a week adds up!
i fillup sunday, and wednsdays...... and use half a bottle each time, usually takes 25 gallons, or close to it.
good luck, let us know how it works out for ya, run at least two tankfulls, and measure the milage, id like confirmation i am not full of shizzle over the milage gains!
I use the Diesel Kleen (grey bottle) in every tankful for my truck and my Bobcat. The engines seem to run quiter and when I stall my Bobcat, I only have white smoke now rather than black smoke on the re-start, so I think it may be burning hotter or faster. I have run diesel fuel additives in every tankful of my truck, so I really don't know if it helps fuel mileage. BTW, I mix it for the 6 cetane boost, 0.64 oz. per gallon of fuel. I use so much that I buy it by the case, four 96 oz. bottles @ $10.16 a bottle from my Bobcat dealer, just under $0.07 per gallon to treat. Saw it in the 96 oz. bottle at Walmart for about $12.50. The Diesel Kleen does not have any anti-gel properties for cold weather, so I will be switching to the white bottle when the weather drops down closer to 0º F.
after i posted this topic i checked the ford manual and found that they do not recommend the use of fuel additives. manual says that it could cause damage to the injectors etc. is this true ?

Ford also says that exhaust, intakes, and power modules will harm your engine too. Fuel additive of a reputable brand will not hurt the engine; it small amount it will make it last longer. Ford only says that to cover thier own liability. Im sure if they could use it to deny a warranty claim, they would try.
thanks i thought it was just a cover all statement but had to check, after reading all i could on this truck and all the poblems people are having im not sue if i want to do anythingto give fod a eason to not cover a problem. i have had no problems and would like to keep it that way, but ould also like to beef up the truck a little.
I started to use Diesel Kleen six tanks ago. My mpg increased by two with first tank, up to 14.5 mpg. Last tank mpg was 17.1. That is with 04 CC 4x4 Long bed and my driving style is very heavy foooootttttted.

You will notice though that they do recommend using fuel additives, such as Stanadyne Performance Formula (mentioned by name in the manual), to prevent gelling in the winter. So they do and they don't recommend using them.
I use the silver bottle Power service. I documented a 1 MPG difference by adding 8 oz for each 10 gal of fuel.
I've noticed anywhere from 1-2 MPG difference using Stanadyne Performance Formula. I look at it this way, it basically pays for itself with the increased mileage and I get to benefit from higher cetane and a cleaner, quieter engine.
