JL, imo, is not in the top. Tons of ppl bash it with names like "Just Lame" "Jensen's Louder" etc. I think it has good SQ but not SPL. My friend had 4 12's JL (dont know which ones) with 1 amp to each and he hit a weak 136.

The answer stands. The mans said JL is the best, it is not. Best all around package? Maybe......Eclipse might have something to say about that. Since JL is currently not making a deck.

Those companies make a single good product. A sub or amp. You'd need to shop elswhere to find a comparable tweet or midrange then go somewhere else to find an amp then somewhere else to get your wires. Sure it's all good stuff but JL as a company makes top shelf products across the board. That's not my opinion that is fact. Any designer can come on the scene with a very good no name product. With no marketing and no one buying their product they go the way of the dinosaur or go to work for a company with an established reputation. So in that respect marketing and presentation has a lot to do with the performance of a product.

Also that 14.4 is under optimal conditions I understand. Also with the 14.4V across the board there will be a level playing field for all manufacturers to go by. No more pie in the sky RMS and MAX watt propaganda floating around (sony). You've seen it...1200 WATT Xplod for 149.99!!! GTFOH !

And whats wrong with that? If I ever carry ALL the same brand of audio equipment, that company had better be sponsoring me. Buy what ya like, no need to have it all the same.

4 12's JL w/4 amps and a "weak" 136 DB? since when has 136 for 4 12's been weak? What do you expect? The sound of the second coming? Too many variables and not enough solid info.

I would expect higher as well. Possibly they are sealed onsidering there are four in that tiny car. Anyone here can beat 136 with just about any pos sub with the right power, cab space, and enclosure. The 136, either by intention, or poor design, could easily go up.
I did 137.6 with 3 10w0's, and 144.3 with one 12w7. JL is not incapable of putting up numbers. Why arent more doing so? The price.

Yup, taking advantage of different tuning, transfer function, and keeping any body flexing to an absolute minimum would certainily help, dont you agree?

One subs setups have surpassed the 170 mark. I myself have done 144.3 with one 12, that was a daily driver. The only reason i have never surpassed that mark is:
A: Desire
B: Money when i DID have the desire.
Now, i just want to be VERY loud, with OMG highs.
Almost done.
BTW I regular SD, several others, and own one myself.
