One more thing I think would be of interest is what age group favors what kind of build. What I mean is, does the younger guys go for the in the weeds modifies and the mid aged guys go with stock and what do the older guys go for? I 41 and prefer stock but at a younger age I liked the modifieds. I just thought this would be interesting to find out.

Hi

I'm 63 and every thing I drive is lowered, 54 Merc, 56 F100 (well I did drive it until I thought I would fix a couple of things) and 2003 F150 S/C

Headin' for 67 next Saturday and I like a bit of drop -- a few inches front and rear with definite rake. My '48 is my true daily driver, and with the many old high-crown roads I drive I have no need for a road scraper.

Bob,

I'm over 60 (won't say how far), so I guess that puts me in the "older guys" category. I like some lowering, but not ground scraping. If I can lower my old F-3 about 3-4 inches all around that would be fine with me. I have always preferred rods to stock trucks and cars but with minimal body mods. I want my 48 F-3 to look totally stock except for the 3-4 inch lowering.

Old Fart
The body will remain Stock, reasonably hot Flatmotor, C-4 Tranny (Bad left leg), Stock rear height with a 9", Streight axel frontend lowered 2-3" with disks. Torque Thrust D's all around. Painted Flat Black with Flat Gray fenders.
And yes Fenders, I am working on some sort of device that will assist me in getting into/out of the Truck, maybe a crane and sling sorta thing..

'fenders

Middle Aged Group- 41

Like my Effies rodded. Not that there is anything at all wrong with a stocker Effie, I just have to jack with stuff. Ruined enough vehicles in the 70s so my mods now have to be functional, safe, and not alter the factory body lines.

Turn ons-

Farmall Red paint
Big tires and smoothie wheels
Bologna Sammitches
Arguing with smart aleck old men on the internet

Turn-offs-

Louvers, too much billet accessories or excessively chopped tops
"Adjusting" fiberglass body panels
Girls that don't realize they shouldn't wear low cut jeans
And of course, SBC engines installed in Fords

I'm 56, and the 54 F250 is on stock springs, but putting the 460 in it dropped the front a little and the rears got de arched a little a few years ago when I hauled about 1 1/2 to 2 tons of rock in her. Since it's a F250, and I'm still running 8 bolt wheels, I'll probably leave it mostly stock height.

Well, I've already tossed out that I'm 26, but as far as type of mods, I'd have to go with a stock appearing body, new driveline, and actually a slight lift. Since I'm working on an F-3, and I like the looks of a nice high riding 1-ton,

I'm actually going to be adding a few more leaves to my stacks (adding a few short/bottom ones, would be the same as adding lift blocks). I'm not talking a mile high lift, just 2 inches or so to give me a more commanding presence on the road.

I don't mind a very mildly lowered truck, but I guess since I've grow up out in the backwoods here in Michigan, you get a truck too low and you lose the functionallity, I'm sorry but gravel roads and low riders just don't go together.

Kenny, Approaching 41.

1959 F-250 Custom Cab 4x4 is going to remain all stock (that is if I ever get started on it).

I decided to keep her stock because of the decent shape, low mileage, etc,.

Someday though, I'd like to find another '59 in not so good mechanical shape, and drop the body onto a '79 4x4 chassis, roll & tuck black interior, all the modern creature features, black cherry sparkle paint, & lots of chrome!

My personal preferences are for both stock, and mod.

49 years young...basically stock body (the truck), lowered a few inches with basically stock suspension...hotted up flatmotor with 3 spd (with OD if I can swing the Merc tranny I'm working on), headers, Smithys, steelies with caps and rings. Basic old school hot rod with a few modern nods towards brakes and comfort (that'd be extra padding in the stock seat natch). Just the same I can appreciate others tastes and efforts if the total package is nice. Seen some bagged lowriders that were really sweet and a couple of pure stockers that had mind blowing attention to detail - whatever floats your boat and keeps the Ford on the road!

there ain't enough

I would have thought that there would have been a majority in the 'coogers' group... where do the yungins' get the disposable income to do one of these trucks ??? All my money went into kids and edumacation for kids back then...

guess that's what I get for working in a steel mill... Between 1980 and 1992 I had no...read NO raises, two 10% pay cuts and layed off for 19 months, that kinda puts your fun things on the back burner

hey fenders... right on with them boloney samiches... I had a tomato samich today for lunch (two actually)... less than 10 minutes from vine to stomach... ummmmmmm yummmmm !... then ate another for dessert... just cut it up....a little salt and pepper and fork it in !!! nuthin better !! sept when they're green & fried

later

John, all I can say that the only reason I have the time or money to play with my 52 (and my bronco) is that I am still single. I have learned in the past though that anytime I do have GF, the poor trucks are the first to suffer. Oh well, I figure I should hurry up and get as much done as I can while I still can. Either that or find a girl that actually understand my insanity

I'm 38. I appreciate everything...stock to wild...as long as it's done in good taste and with quality in mind. I just bought another '55- this one actually has a nice, rustfree body & the original bed wood, along with a T-bird 312 & a metallic blue paint job. I'm thinkin' this one should be old school, '60s style...maybe a set of American 5- spokes, black tuck & roll, & keeping the 312 & straight axle, & re-adding (is that a word??) the Custom Cab emblems & nose emblem which were shaved. No chop or body mods. Possibly a cheap-*** Grant " 'Fenders-approved " steering wheel. Although, I'm thinking about changing the T-98 over to a AOD, adding power brakes, & A/C. So, I guess I'm actually an old-school wuss, since I apparently value my creature comforts too much. However, lest it be thought I'm too much of a wuss, I will add I just road-tripped this one back to IL from Oklahoma City in 94 deg. heat. The Y-block never went over 185 degrees & I had a blast. No tunes- just the sweet rumble of Super Turbos all the way up I-44..... Mike

P.S. I now have Mr. Universe legs from the combo of heavy clutch & no power brakes. Worse than our tractors. All you "codgers" doing the total stock restos...my hat is off to you..or it would be if I wasn't trying to hide the thinning hair....!
