I just bought a 01 Expy and I want to do the Hellwig sway bars install. I've been looking around and I only see rear sway bars available for 4x4 models and no front. Do they not make the front for 4x4 or am I missing something here?
So it looks like I'll just need to do a poly bushing replacement for the front then. I see there are 2 different front sway bar diameters... 25mm and a 33mm.
Any idea what a 2001 EB 4x4 Expy has on it?
Thanks
Just did the swaybars on my 01 4x4. Rear Hellwig bar kit w/bushings and end links and front bushings and end links. The stock front bar is 33mm, plenty beefy. I replaced the bushings and end links with an Energy Suspension kit (about $30). All from Summit Racing (best price, excellent service). Easy job, especially the front. While you're at it, consider replacing the shocks as well. My OEM shocks were trashed at 30k (no damping or rebound at all on one of the fronts). Replaced with bilsteins. Expy behaves much better now.
OK
As far as end links, does anyone know the size (length) of the brass sleeve between the end link bushings. Summit needs this measurement to get the correct size.
Didn't need the measurement when I ordered mine from Summit. Told them the vehicle specs and they sent the correct kit. If you can wait until tomorrow, I'll post the kit number (it's at home).
The Energy Suspension web site lists 1 application for a front sway bar kit for the Expy. It's kit #5173, which I recall is correct. Comes with 2 bushings and the endlinks. The number should be enough for Summit to go by if you're in a hurry. Otherwise I'll verify the kit number tomorrow.
01 4x4 Expy - On the Energy Suspension box: "FD 33mm Front Sway Bar Set 4.5145G". Summit part# on the invoice is ENS-4-5145G. FWIW, the Hellwig rear sway bar kit number is 7624.
I also put a Hellwig on the rear of my 99 Expy. Contacted Hellwig and they said they don't make a front for the 4WD because the stock item was good and didn't need improvement. I paid less then $20 for Energy Suspension front bushing and links, not at Summit. The stock links are crap and easily break off. Summit did have the best price on the FlowMaster Exhaust. Suggest you remove those stock shocks and put some Bilsteins on, big difference.
