To the Strip again!

Guys,

I hope to go to the drag strip tonight. Let's hope I don't come home on a wrecker again! I'm debating to put on my Dad's flat-bed and haul it with his truck.

The truck is running pretty good. There still seems to be a little miss or slip when I've got my foot in it! But it is small. I think the engine is making more power than ever and I've definitely got better traction.

I hope to get into the 14s.

I'll take the slicks with me. Bolt them on when I get there.

I'll put some booster in the tank, I'm sure. Or I just might drop in some race juice at the track. I need to see how much 93 is still in the monster tank.

How close are you to the track and will your dad be available for a sudden call? I'm lucky in that the trip to the nearest "fun place" is only about 5 miles, or 20 minutes if your counting the clock. I usually take the tow chain with me, then if needed, I can always call the wife and tell her to load up in her truck and come get me

You guys sure are optomistic!

Hey gtex, whats the 250 putting up for weight numbers? Thinking thats really going to hurt you. Got my truck down to 3900 with driver. My truck seems to top out very quickly around 90mph. Not sure if it's a hp thing, aerodynamics, or weight, or all of the above.

The adrenaline started rushing again this weekend at the track when I saw a 70 that looked just like mine with the same slicks and all. He put in a 429 and clocked a 15.5. Feels good that I'm almost a second quicker. Tracks @ 3600ft.

Good lucK Greg. I've been gone alot lately and not been able to keep up with the saga.

Glad to hear it's running. With some tuning I can't see why low 14's is not obtainable. 13's are just a short jaunt away.

Truck weighs in at scant 4900lbs :-)

It ran 15.9 with a grandma lunch, little to no traction and I'm sure it was making less power then.

It is running good. I don't foresee any problems, but you know how that goes. The track is about an hour away, and Dad is about 5 minues from me. I've already warned him. I may actually just borrow the trailer and his truck and haul it down there. The trucks not exactly legal yet :-)

Back to the shop. I'm wiring up the electric cut-outs and the electric tranny cooler fan and a horn. It won't make me legal, but at least it should pass all the basic checks if the authorities ask.

The only downer, it's hot today. That certainly won't help any.

I weigh in at 4070lbs. I run a 14.5 on slippery street tires. They say every 100lbs is worth a tenth on the quarter. If all that is true you would need to run low 15s just to equal the same amount of power my engine is making. If you aren't making more power than I am you have something wrong.

I predict a 14.4@94MPH on slicks Greg. Just a wild guess but you should be close.

Edit: Also at least a 2.1 second 60 foot time.

something ain't right :-(

Well, I made it home under my own power. That's the good news. Nothing is busted, so I guess there is more good news. And, I did have fun and met some nice folks.

My best time was a dismal 16.3 seconds. I ran side by side with a 74 F100 with a tired 360. I ran a 15.9 with the open diff on street tires before the pushrod cup incident.???????????

On my last attempt, I did a burn-out. I had not been doing one before. I think the burnout went OK. I get to the line, stage, drop the hammer then suddenly...nothing. It dies and would not start. Embarassing, yes. They push me out of the way, and I sit and watch the remaining races from the track. I fiddle around and determine that the fuel pump is not coming on. After the track is closed I get pulled out to the pit where my tools are (limited selection of tools for the trip). 3 nice guys come over and offer to help troubleshoot. I think the pump has died and I am not happy about that. Just for grins, they check the ignition, no spark. Light bulb goes off for all of us at the same time....my ignition relay is not getting triggered! Sure enough, I find the main power feed to the relay is unhooked. That relay feeds the fuel pump, the MSD, the fans etc.

I had already called the wrecker. I called back and cancelled, put on the street tires and drove 50 miles to home with no issues.

I think the monster tank is not good for dragging. It sloshes around on launch and probably fills the line with bubbles. On one run it actually fell on it's face in 3rd gear. I put in some more gas, and it didn't do it again. My tank is very big on the bottom, and the outlet is near the front....not a good combination.

If you guys have any ideas, let me know.

Wow Greg, sounds like you had another adventure?

What were your 60ft times? did the truck pull hard all the way thru the traps?
I was thinking last night when I went to bed, you wouldnt, shouldnt have any problems getting into the upper 14s....were you boiling the tires coming out of the gate?

Maybe with that wire working itself loose, you werent getting full power to the ignition and the fuel pump? I dont know? Its a hard call? Maybe Sean will come down one weekend and the two of you can take it to the track and see whats up..

Have time to get any pics? Russ
