Quick connect on hydraulic line

Quick connect on hydraulic line
I am currently changing out my clutch on a 90 ranger 2.9 2wd and cannot get the quick connector off my hydraulic line. The new clutch kit I bought included the tool but is bending severely not allowing it to release. Do I push the plastic sleeve in towards the bell housing and use the tool to pull the line out. Because there really is no room for me to grab the plastic sleeve because it is in the bellhousing. Can someone help shed some light on this situation
