if the engine runs fine thats a decent price for a engine. can you hear it run? how long does it smoke for ? if it smokes when you first fire it up its probably valve guides or seals, if it smokes for awhile after you have it running its more then likely the rings.
How would I be able to get the motor to run if there's no electrical in the bay? Everything except for the hood has been removed from the front of the truck. The starter was rusted pretty badly and the wires were corrroded. I know the motor ran when it was parked (saw it being driven and about a year ago had the guy fire it for me before I bought it). As for the smoke....it didn't last too long...maybe a minute or so before I couldn't see it anymore.
that might have been because it had been sitting for awhile. to get it running in a truck under those conditions, thats would be tough. if you seen it run before and had not been run since, i would check to make sure it still turns over, if it does i would consider the engine.
