'65 Galaxie with a 352

I'm gonna buy a 1965 Ford Galaxie with a 352 engine in a few days and had a couple questions. I would like to know if the 352 is a good engine or would I be better off replacing it with another engine, also is there any performance parts available for the 352. Thanks.

The 352 is an excellent engine.

There is a multitude of things you could do with it. It can be upgraded to a 390 or 410. There's a multitude of cams, heads, pretty much anything you'd ever possibly want. Go for it, it's a great engine to have. I wouldn't dream of replacing it.

Nope... 390 crank requires 390 rods and different pistons.

Just bore the 352 block .050 over and have a 390 and then use the 390 crank, rods and pistons. Otherwise you are looking at custom piston to get you 380 CID motor. Cheaper to do the 390 thing.

If it works, don't fix it! At least I wouldn't. LOL It's not like a chiveee where you gut the factory internals and start over.

Maybe a small 4V and headers while you collect enough parts to get more cubes. Post more complete info when you bring it home.

Nice truck BTW

LOL.. well I was assuming a bore to 4.050" because I have seen any standard bore 352's running around My neighborhood in years.. I just figure when mentioning the crank..the rest was a given..

I sometimes forget that not everyone is as up on there FE's as you fellers!!! LOL..

Go for it. Years ago, we had a '64 Country Sedan w/ a 352. It would take the Cascade Mountains in Oregon with ease. There are a LOT of options and MOST of them are power related. If you're looking for a "sleeper" muscle car, you'll have it.

I think the 1960 high performance 352 had a factory rating of 360 hp, so they can do pretty well. I'm guessing you could match that by bumping up the compression, adding headers, a 4v, and a mild cam. I don't know for sure, I'm only answering because I have a similar question. I'm working on my '61 Starliner with a 352 and am weighing my mechanical options. Hoping to be corrected if I'm wrong.

When new: 1965 Galaxie: 352/250 HP; 390/300 HP.

Factory Blown

289 ci V8 Studebakers with blowers 1957-58; 1963-64: 300+HP

No that's not a Ford engine, but a near copy of the 1949 Cadillac 331 V8.

It's so close, a Caddy 4V intake manifold will fit a Studie, but not t'other way around.

289 Studies had solid lifters, also.

Lets see;

1960 352 H.P. = 360 hp @ 6000
1961-62 390 6V = 401 hp @ 6000
1963-68 427 8V = 425 hp @ 6000 Actually a 425 CID Engine

So Ford has done it several times with "street FE" motors.

I didn't check small blocks.
