'92 explorer ball joints
92 explorer with 98,000 miles. The garage says that I need ball joints for $725. This seems like too much. Is there anything special about this vehicle that it should cost so much? Also said that I need radius arm and bushing?

The ball joints and radius arm bushings are prone to failure on the older Explorers, especially at the same time. $725 sounds a little steep so I would shop around. Autozone has lower ball joints for $20 each, uppers for $27 each and radius control arm bushings for $7 each. That's a total of $108 in parts, so I would think you could get it done, with an alignment, for less than $500. It's not any harder than doing it on any other car, it's just time consuming and sometimes the ball joints and bushings don't like to come out...
