Electric antenna

You don't need to get to the motor. Just go and buy a replacement mast from the dealer. Pull off the plastic trim piece on top of the fender. Use a pair of pliers and rag so you don't scratch anything. Remove the nut and pull the mast up as far as possible. Also turn on key and radio so motor turns and keep pulling. A long plastic white extension(maybe 36") with teeth that the motor meshes with is connected to the bottom of the metal mast that you see normally. With radio on, it will push out until it gets to the broken place. On 97 EB, most of it came out and all i had to do was start the new mast into the antenna motor with teeth facing the same way as old, turn off the radio, and it pulled it all the way in. U pput the nut back on top, turn radio on and off a few times and you're done.
If your white plastic extension breaks off close to the metal mast, then you will have too much plastic to coil up inside the drum(?) or storage area below the antenna motor and your antenna won't go down all the way. On my 93 Mark 8, i had to remove the whole ant motor and take apart that drum to remove the old broken piece. Ford says its non servicable, but i think the whole ant with motor is well over $50 and replacement mast is about $10 -$15. According to ford service manual, on 97 and later explorers: remove trim on top and antenna nut, inner fender apron, and RH cowl side trim panel(down by passengers feet). Disconnect electrical connectors and antenna wire inside and push wire inside engine comp. Remove lower antenna mount screw and push motor assembly down and forward. "If necessary, to remove a broken section of plastic antenna drive cable, remove the cover and drive mechanism." "Locate and remove the broken piece of drive cable." Reassemble.
Just go buy the replacement mast (assuming you can hear your ant motor turning when you turn radio on and off) and its about a ten minute job if you don't have to remove the whole assembly. I also have a 96 and it looks like it would be the same procedure for its replacement so hopefully your 95 is set up close to the same.
Hope this helps. Sorry, I got a little long winded.
