i have a 1989 f250 351w
its got that one big cat and its got a egr tube goin into it and i wnat my truck louder so im gunna tkae my cat off. will that mess up my computer or mess up my truck or what?
there shouldn't. At least theres not one my f150. but it should just have 1 right there at the y pipe in front of the cat. It will just make the exaust smell.
I dont have much experience on the F-series but I do the 5.0 Stangs. The only thing that happens is that the airflow is changed and can cause the O2 sensors to read wrong. That may cause your check engine light to come on.
Good advice has been given above. I drove my truck without covertors for a couple of weeks and couldn't stand the way my exhaust smelled like a lawnmower so I had a high flow cat installed and am happy with it.
I would just leave it alone unless it is clogged up, if it is buy a high low cat to replace it with.
If you take your CAT off spend the little bit extra for a CATCO high flow CAT or any brand. It wont hurt your performance that much and will keep you from stinking up ever intersection you pull up to.
My cat is on, but I still have a bad sulfur fart smell to my exhaust. Is this a bad convertor, a bad O2 sensor, other? Has new fuel regulator and fuel pump 6-months ago. Check engine light comes on occasionaly.
How many miles on the O2 sensor? If you a high miles on it I would change it. That is a culprit for the on/off Check Engine light. It will take care of that as well as give you a little better gas mileage.
