Tuning/de-catted exhaust

Ok before all the leaflickers jump on me, the truck has come to me de-catted and I'm just trying to sort out my options and get some opinions.

2011 CCLB 6.2 with 125,000m

The truck is de-catted and running SCT canned tunes at the moment. The truck runs fine and will throw the odd catalyst code if the rear 02 sensors are left on, SCT allows you to turn them off if you'd like.

I ran my '03 f350 5.4 for over seven years with no cat with zero issues, I've compression tested that motor within the last year and it's never thrown any codes. I'm a maintenance junkie but have run that truck hard and it's pushing 200,000miles. It is untuned.

My plan once the dust settles here and I can finger out the computer part of things is to purchase a custom tune from 5star, and I'm wondering if having the cat delete is going to help me with gains or be a hindrance? Because if it is I'll source and replace cats before tuning. But I'm not gonna replace the cats Espescially if it's going to net me less hp.

Also worth noting is I've read a couple comments about a de-catted 6.2 not sounding good. To me that is just simply not the case, it sounds mean as hell and the rest of the exhaust is stock. No droning, no excessive loudness.

Any thoughts and comments appreciated?

Anyone else custom tuned and de-catted?

Had to add a pic of my new beauty. It's almost as if someone built it up with me in mind.

Wow the gassers sure are a lot less popular for mods it seems in the superduty format. I guess most end up with a superduty gas because they want the reliability and therefore don't mess with it much?

My head is swimming from reading as much as I can about 'tunes'. I guess for now I'll just keep running it as is. Canned SCT tunes.

Even without the rear 02 sensors turned off the truck doesn't throw the cat codes in normal daily driving or towing. My mileage is a pretty consistent 11-12mpg and I'm not babying it. Seems consistent with what others see.

I only got the cat codes when I went over the Rockies from Alberta to BC while bringing it home. Now that it's been run around here for awhile it hasn't thrown the cat codes.

Well my tuning story gets deeper lol. I've been playing around with the SCT to the point that I've become quite comfortable with it and confident that I can return to stock if need be. So I drilled down through the custom tunes menu and it seemed like it would let me load something so I proceeded. Turns out there is one custom tune on the SCT, from a Canadian company labelled LSI performance. The company is Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer Alberta. I've got a e-mail into them to see if I can get any further info on the specifics of the tune. They tune in-house with their own dynos, their website is impressive so I'm hoping they get back to me, I'll update when/if they do.

Well great guys there at Lightspeed Innovations. They got right back to me and let me know my truck was custom tuned for 87 economy and towing.

One day I may want to try an all out performance tune but for now I'll just keep running it as is.
