Do I need to pull the tranny out or move it back to get the engine out? It's a 5.4L.
Can someone offer tips and advice on moving the tranny back or getting it out?
Thanks!!
I pulled the 4.6l out of my 97 F150 this spring. I didn't need to drop or even move the tranny. FYI, the tranny housing/engine block bolts are real fun to get to. You'll need a variety of extensions, and swivels.
Hi gman and welcome to the forum
I pull the whole body off the frame to work on the engine but for most people working in their driveway or garage at home that's not an option.
One of the guys I work with loosens off the cab mount bolts and removes the bolts that hold the rad support to the frame and then raises the front of the body enough to put a piece of 4x4 between the rad support mounts and the frame. That gives enough room to get at the bellhousing bolts much easier than trying to fight with them in place like stantojl did
The engine mounts are a painus in the anus to remove from the block and that's not neccessary. You can just unbolt them from the frame and pull them out with the engine.
Thanks, taht's some good information.
My problem is my engine is locked, so I cannot remove the flywheel from the t-converter. I had to move my tranny back and it's still not enough, so I am going to remove the motor mount bolts from the block (major pain) and slide the motor forward. Hopefully it will work.
