Replacing Instrument Cluster

After reading several threads on swapping instrument clusters, I decided I want an indash tach. However ther seems to be some question as to which years are safe to interchange. I'm especially concerned because my truck is a 97 F250, old body style. I was hopeing someone would know where to look the information up. Usually auto manufacturers make changes by VIN#. Is there a way to check this?

Any of those body style trucks would work, provided it has the same number of cylinders. If you use a 6 cyl tach on an 8 or vice/versa it'll throw off the RPM reading. Good luck finding one as the factory tach seems to have not been very common. I'd like to find a cluster with one for mine too.
