I know this should be in the Dress-up category, but nobody answered me there, so I'll try here.
I have an 88 Bronco and I have a huge hole in my driver-side seat from 16 years of people sliding in and out. I would like to buy two relatively inexpensive aftermarket seats for it. Where can I find these? Will I still be able to tilt it forward so that passengers can get in and out? Will I have to make my own bracketry? Pep Boys has some, but they are located right next to the ricer junk. Will these fit in my Bronco?
A simple set of seat covers couldnt do the trick?? If you want inexpensive, I believe the junkyard can be your friend. I think one of the more common seat swaps for broncos is to a set of captains chairs out of an explorer. Its not really aftermarket, but I thought i would throw that out there for you.
I got a nice set of black velour power buckets from an IROC-Z for $75 at the boneyard, I needed them to put into a 74 Ramcharger and it was cool because all of the holes lined up (just got lucky...) But if you can find a yard with Broncos then you could probably get Bronco seats. I didn't WANT 74 Ramcharger seats for my Dodge, those seats sucked.
Also what about getting your seat recovered? I think you can even buy the pre-cut one from JC Whitney and I don't think that it is very hard to install.
Reupholstered or just seat covers? Seat covers won't work because I have armrests.
It's a seat --cover-- that you can buy, not a cheesy Wal-Mart cover but the same thing that covers the foam when it comes out of the factory. You remove the old ripped one and install the new one over the existing foam (and replace any bad foam at the same time). I have never done one, but I've seen it done and it does not look not too hard. Most of them attach with hooks and rings, you will need some hook ring pliers.
BTW - you can remove the armrests to put regular seat covers on. There is a zipper or velcro on the bottom side of the armrest that you can open to get to the nut to remove the armrest. Then after you put the cover on, just cut a small hole and put the armrest back on.
My seats are in good condition but I plan to put some genuine silver/grey sheepskins on this year because Sam's Club has then for under $100 for the pair and they look real nice.
