Bodywork question

I have a 50 F-1 that is in pretty good shape metal wise. There are a few spots where the previous owner appeared to have dealt with some rust by backing the spot with a layer of fiberglass and bondo on the front surface. Now I see several spider cracks and need to address them as I redo the entire truck.

Question? I do not have the resources to replace metal sections but I have fairly handy with fiberglass. Was the original repair attempt reasonable? Is so, what is the best way to deal with these areas?

Nothing is ever going to be as good as welding in new metal, but if that really isn't an option for you, the fiberglass route can be okay if done right. The backside will have to be completely clean and rust-free before applying 'glass, and must be completely sealed afterward. As far as the bondo is concerned, it is okay too if done right. Most people either a.)mix wrong, b.)apply too thickly or c.) don't let it cure long enough. You can do an acceptable job if you take your time and pay attention to detail. I'd still recommend finding somebody to weld in patch panels. It'll be better in the long run and maybe cheaper than you think if you shop around.
