Already checked it out. Used the link from the first time it you posted it... lol
How come nobody else has said anything about the bronco in #1?
I'll throw my .02 in. I voted for the original. The car chase is much better than the second, with the speeds being real and the crashes too, and no stunt driver, although even I have to admit it is a little on the long side! The down side is that the storyline was a little flimsy. The fact that the original car is still kicking is pretty cool.
On the other hand, the new version has a 67, which I like better than the 73 style. I don't like the new elenore craze though. I don't like body kits on anything, especially an old mustang. The car chase was ok, a little lame in spots, like the big bridge, and as mentioned the fast forward to make speed. And obviously they didn't really destroy that car, or probably even put a scratch on it during the filming of the movie. The car at the end is obviously a different car then was seen in the rest of the movie. The story line was a little better, but still could be improved. (like, why didn't he just steal elenore first? The cops knew he would save it for last, so if he stole it first he would have had it)
I've seen both and like the original more. Even though all and all it really is a bad movie, the new one just has too much plot. The love story? The kidnapped brother? yeah right. It's a movie designed for the masses and the SFX were too obvious.
you really have to like cars to be able to sit through the first one. That plus the first has a helluva lot better ending (go see it, it's worth it)
Also for the people who say taht they used the smae car through the whole thing, sure it might have had the same VIN tag, but that's about it. When he nails the lamp post the car comes around and you can see where the front suspension is destroyed. The guy also spent 8 months in the hospital because of that shot, nearly killed him. Or when he ramps the car and you see every fuid blow out of the bottom of the car and the roof ripple fom the frame bending and in teh next shot it's smooth as can be and the car drives off?
ALOT of work was done to that car during the movie to keep it rolling along and enough parts were replaced that the body and vin tag might have been the same, but beyond that calling it the same car is quite a stretch.
Nick Cage does alot of his own stunt work, especially the driving. He did most of the jump scene at the beginning of the chase, he would have done the whole thing but the producers wouldn't let him. I've seen both and do like the first one better, it is more real... I love the scene where he runs through the car lot trying to lose the police.
I like the first one better.
1. Lower budget.
2. Even if they did repair the car to keep it running, I don't remember seeing any body repair from crash to crash.
3. I love the twist at the end -- How he ended up actually stealing Elenor at the end of the movie is great.
I agree the storyline was thin but for what they spent I didn't expect much. I've seen that movie on every Blockbuster movie rental place I've been into but didn't watch it before the remake came out.
As has been stated about the new Elenor, $90,000 and it can be yours. A 'new' Shelby. They are also making at least two other 'continuation' cars from Shelby as well.
I don't really feel like there is much of a love story in the new version, I mean, basically the two had a thing for eachother before, and are into eachother during the movie, but it's not like it was 1/2 a chic flick. If anything it was less about an actual relationship, and more about..well...the other part.
I don't see a problem with the "kidnapping" parts of the movie, i felt that seemed natural given the circumstances.

Jump scene? The big jump as all computer, hardly need to be a stunt man to run a keyboard - as fake as Angie's lips. Some of Halicki's version was shot on open highway (didn't have the budget to pay for closed highway). His story line was weaker, but a lot more believeable. Love to see Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry again, been almost 30 years since I've last scene it broadcast.
It has to be the original for me. I was there watching them film on 190th St in Redondo Beach (the steep hill near the end of the movie). When the smashed those new cars at Moran Caddilac in Torrance, they had to buy more of them then originally planned.
Having only seen the new one I can't say. I really don't like Cage for some reason. The custom Elenaor car was nice but i don't know the specs on it and i wish i did. and "dazed and confused" is one of the best movies ever imo. Its the perfect high school movie!
Checkya later!
