Problems continue, No end in sight.

Truck goes in for the 15th time on Monday. Currently a recorder in the truck to try and figure out what is wrong. Dealership has been told about problem, and they are talking trade to 2005 truck. They are claiming they will need to be reimbursed for mileage, and I for mods to truck (minor stuff i.e. toolbox, bedliner, flares, flaps, trailer hitches, etc.). If Ford becomes involved, I will not take much of a loss. If dealership tries to make me happy without them, we will see.

Truck was in 10 days ago, service claims a EGR valve code and fixed it. For several days it ran excellent. Then it started doing it again. After driving for 10 minutes, stop at a light, and the truck will miss and sputter like crazy. While driving at any moderate speed, rather than the motor keep on purring, the motor actually sounds like it shuts off, drops speed lower than desired, and then restarts and takes off again. This is repeated continiously say avery 100 yards. Dosn't matter if I am controlling speed with my foot, or cruise control. Also, the truck has a horrible vibration in it while going down the highway, that I believe, is attributed to the engine.

They could not find codes this time, so I now have a recorder on the truck. The service manager gave me instructions to record any time it did it and reschedule when I have 4 good recordings. I suggested he just plan on me in a couple of days, and he lauphed at me and said they could not get it to act up. Well, the next day it was missing like crazy on my way to work. I, in fact, stopped at a light for two cycles (early in morning, zero traffic) just to make sure the recording got the full picture. Then again that afternoon while driving empty down the highway.

Sounds like the problem may be with the diesel tech and service manager.

Started to say the same thing there SBV....
but Hey, if you get a new truck out of it...
then you can tell them to fix the wiring harness that's probably chafing....

I thought it was the techs also but have since changed my mine and believe you either have a good truck or a lemmon and mine is a lemmon, like my service manager says it has nothing to adjust and if there are no codes, they say its fine you are just a complainer

Used the truck this weekend, it pulls fine, but at part throttle, I believe it will tear the drivetrain out!!! At twenty miles an hour, in town, with a #9000 trailer in tow, the truck would accelerate hard and shut down on a cycle of about every second. The way this thing is running, I don't believe it could be the wire chafing problem. I have recorded these instances, and hopefully they will be able to read these occurances. We will see, the truck goes in today.

Actually the loss of power from a wire chafing issue would throw the sensors (and therefore powertrain control computers) into fits....

Who KNOWS what all it would do :-)

Just think how your PC would run if it had intermittent power outages ?

But do keep copious documentation -
I think 30 days out of service in less than a year is about the standard for lemon laws in most states...
but if you can get it "handled" at the dealership level - that's MUCH better for you (and probably Ford :-)

I got the truck back last night, they were able to read 3 codes from the recorder. Now mind you, this has been acting up for close to 1000 miles. #1 injector was bad. My truck has the NEW C95 injectors, and this is the second one to fail. I have NOT had pilot injection enabled since the flash last fall that removed it. So, the pilot injection is probably not the cause of this failure.

Now, why am I not happy? Could it be because I have put between 600 and 1000 miles on the truck since the symptoms started? And, they (the service tech.) did not feel an oil change was called for. Yet, after about 100 miles of driving on the last injector problem, they felt the oil needed to be changed!

Yes, I feel I have the right to be NOT HAPPY. I continue to have problems with this truck, and yes, I do have my truck back and running good right now, but give it a couple of weeks, and some other issue will rear its ugly head. All these issues scare me because: A) Down the road, they are wearing on "other" parts, pieces, or systems, and causing premature wear and earlier failure. Ford refuses to address this issue. B) I have had a few vehicles serviced under warranty before, This truck is the only one that comes out of the shop dirtier than when it went in!!!! On all my GM cars, any service work at all, the cars came out cleaner than before. Most of the time they have been washed, vacumed and windows cleaned. Not abused, soiled, and returned.

Have a question for the smart group......FTE members....with the above problem. is it possible that the fuel pump is over driving in some way to continue to cause injector problems for THIS engine....I am not saying all...just this instance, we know high oil PSI when cold can accelerate potential issues….what about an erratic fuel pump

Tim,

It is a thought, however, I believe FORD should address or look into it rather than board members.

J,
you're right... but any research is better than none :-)
but most of what you've stated may be resolved by another dealer !

Mine comes out of the shop spotless on the few times I've had it in -
in fact, they'll wait until I'm driving it up to do the final run thru their car wash so it isn't even dusty !

the ONLY time my truck gets washed, when it goes in once a month for it's free oil change per 3k miles
comes out CLEAN!

i also believe you are a suspect for wire chafing. at least bring it up, i am sure you just want the truck fixed! and i wonder.... could chafed wires, and voltage stray cause an injector to go bad??? if it is firing into a chamber thats under FULL pressure of combustion, say 18,000psi, instead of the normal ~5000 psi?

or am i on crack here?

It would be great if Ford were to do that...but, we can at least think on our own.

Board members should look into anything that improves our knowledge of this truck.
