Question V10 throttle body spacer?

New to the site, great info here. Just purchased a 2002 X with a V10,LOVE IT.I was wanting to know if any one had tried a throttle body spacer,UMI Performance claims 1-3 more mpg and more low-mid torque.Any info would be great.Thanks,EXCURV10.

Yea thats kinda what I figured, only reason I asked is because I know that on two stroke engines (250r or 350 banshee) if you space the reeds & carb it gives you way better throttle response & better mid range & its proven, but I guese thats hole different animal. I guese a TBS is kinda like a tornado, a piece of C#%*. Thanks,Doug.

Yes it is a piece of "work". If you look into the ACCUFAB throttle body you will be pleased with the results.

Carb spacers also work on manifolds that can't make velocity due to the air track not having enough length, but the V-10 has plenty of intake length. The problem is getting enough air in, so larger throttle bodies and a larger MAF help after you enlarge the capacity of your air filter. Then, you have to be able to get that volume of air out the exhaust. Save your money with the spacer, save your money with the Tornado, even though that method will work on some engines, like your 2 strokes, and on early carb'd engines, it won't help your V-10, good luck, Ken

I bought one off ebay. Not impressed with it, didn't see much of an improvement. In fact the 1st tankful I about died at the fuel mileage. I guess it was the computer adapting to the Throttle Body Spacer ( I GUESS ) because that 1st tank was horrible. My fuel mileage is back to 11 or 12 MPG now.

Beats me, but I know the 1st tank after I added the spacer I got 7.2 MPG and that was mixed town and highway driving. It has evened out now, but don't feel I gained more than .1 to .3 MPG (better than before the spacer was added) which is okay by me.

Those spacer really crack me up! As if they really created a tornado effect in only 1" with the shallow turns in the spacer. Even if it did, do you think the tornado effect would be maintained as the air travels (very quickly mind you, enough to create up to 20" vacuum!!) through 12 or more inches of intake runner that has a sand cast finish and numerous bends, down the intake side of the head, around an intake valve and being redirected by the design of the cyl head chamber??? As if that is not enough, when valves slam shut there is a reverberation air pulse that travels back up the intake. Very unlikely to see anything other than a pretty anodized turd behind your throttle body....

You guys should stop this!

I have a Poweraid throttle body spacer (not installed...it was kinda like a package deal...) that I have to get rid of somewhere. If everyone finds out they are crap for port fuel injected engines then it'll just take up space in my garage!!
