Reading codes on an EEC-IV 1995 explorer?
You can retrieve self test and stored codes using the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) - aka Check Engine Light.
Connect a jumper wire between the Self Test Input (STI) connector and Pin 2 of the Diagnostic Test connector under the hood. Codes are transmitted by place value with a pause between digits. A longer pause divides separate codes. You can run both a Quick Test (KOEO) and Engine Running (KOER/ER)
The Chilton's manual describes the procedure; and Haynes also has a picture and diagram.
I understand that AutoZone and other parts stores will read the codes free of charge.
