Need some advice with my audio system in my 2004 expedition. it is an eddie bauer edition, with the 8 inch woofer. I just got a new Kenwood face unit and plan on upgrading the 4 6x8 door speakers. That is no problem.

What I am needing help with is the woofer situation that has been discussed above. I would like to do this as cheaply as possible and just buy an aftermarket woofer and stick it in the current box and use the current amp. I saw a infinity woofer mentioned above. I will look into that.

Did anyone just replace the woofer with success and leave everything else as is? if so, what sub woofer did you go with?

The picture above were a big help, but before I go ripping stuff out, I want to make sure I can just replace the woof.

Thanks!

Well I can tell you that I DID JUST THAT. I happened across a Polk Audio MM840 DVC 8inch sub at a local shop shop for only $75 (50% off clearance since it was $149+ regular), which works fine for me..... after some modding of the plastic enclosure... (see my above posts for those pictures)

sounds better than before vs the stock sub, but i know a new amp would breathe all new life in to this sub... I'm using a cheapie Jensen 9312 touchscreen head unit which might also contribute to its "lack" of "boom" ... but at nearly 40 years old, it sounds great to me! When I was 18 --- I might have wanted more - But I'm plenty content with this setup. Again, I'm a firm believer that a new amp would increase the sound quality TREMENDOUS! but I'm not willing to invest the money right now - maybe later.

The sub I used (just because it was on clearance as I was walking thru - that was my buying decision --- FYI! )

thanks for the response.

i searched for that same sub you installed and found it on amazon for around $45.

so did you get this sub to fit in perfectly without doing anything to the current box?

i am not an audio guy or car guy, so since i am going to be doing this on my own, i am really hoping it is just plug and chug with this specific sub.

thanks again for your insight.

did you replace your 6x8 door speakers?

this subwoofer looks like it would be a good fit to be paired with the stock amp that comes in the expedition. it is designed to run off of less power. any thoughts?

Guys keep in mind that there is now a market for Shallow Mount subwoofers which should be able to fit into those OEM enclosures. Personally, I own an 03 Expedition E/B and I am planning on ripping that OEM enclosure out and mounting an Infinity Basslink which is a self powered 10" subwoofer - Hoping that it will fit nice and snug behind the OEM Panels.

However, does anyone have the wiring info for that rear subwoofer harness????
I need to know what is what because I need the Audio Signal to tap into for sound.
Can anyone help?

The aftermarket enclosures are extremely expensive IMO. >$500 which is insanely high for what it is. You're paying for the box, more than anything else. Your average 8-10 inch woofer is $100 - and that's for a premium brand at or near full retail.

I think $400 or more for a small to medium amp and box is high. But that's just me.

A heat gun and a hammer will make the factory box fit any 8 inch sub woofer, by simply heating up that mounting hump in the back, and smashing it down (that's what I did). The factory amp is lacking, no doubt..... but it's already there and just a new woofer does make it better.

I would like to know about the wiring harness too - that would make adding a new amp EASY.

Does anyone know how wide is the opening for the OEM sub enclosure??

My basslink needs at least 10" to mount BUT I (Think) can modify the mounting bracket and can work with about 8 1/2 to 8 3/4".

Anyone know the dimensions in that space?

Hello,
I also have replaced the stock HU initially with a Pioneer AVIC which was stolen. Now, I am using an Jensen 9512 and have connected the subwoofer and amplifier correctly. My dilemma is that the subwoofer is producing a hissing sound despite turning down the volume in the Jensen HU. Did anyone resolve this issue and if so,what was their solution.
Thank you

I dont' get any hissing sound from my Jensen. A friend bought the same jensen unit I have, and it had serious speaker issues, he ended up getting rid of it. Might be a bad unit.

Hi again, so I got a replacement Head Unit, now I connected everything and now I have not sound coming out of the subwoofer. I was wondering, you know the Head Unit Harness has a Blue/White wire for Exterternal Power Amplifier Control, I connected this to the Scoche Blue and White wire for Amp. Also, I have the Blue Subwoofer RCA Jack connected with a Y-cable L/R to the Scoche L/R. Is that correct, or should I only have the RCA connected and not the Blue and White Amp wire from the HUD?

Scoshe gives the wrong information for the sub woofer and harness on the ford sub mach system. You need the LINE OUT harness for it to work. It doesn't look like it will work, but it does.

The Scoshe harness from wal-mart, and even most stereo shops is WRONG. It will NOT get sound to the sub woofer.

I do NOT remember the model number, so sorry - and I'm not willing to pull out the head unit again to check it.... However, what it is is the third smallest connector from the factory headunit (harness) is the one for the sub, and the adapter you need takes RCA LINE-LEVEL OUTPUT from the Jensen Headunit, and converts it to single wires of the factory harness and goes in to the sub/amp etc...

Very nice!

Hey, can you find a REVERSE wire near the head unit so I can hook up my back up camera!?

Reverse Wire

What I did before with my Pioneer was I wired the right reverse light (which is accessible via the Jack Storage compartment) with the a long green wire and just tucked it in underneath the panels and then connected it to the HU. I hope that answers your question.
