Normal cruise control speed variations?

Cruise acted strange.
On a 250 mile trip home from Montreal last weekend my cruise control acted kinda weird. I was on a very slight incline set at 60 when I noticed the truck slowing down. The speedo continued to drop to about 52, then the cruise light went out. After this the engine rpm dropped to about 400. I then hit the go pedal and away we went. No trouble after that. No dummy lights either.
Any thoughts?

Every cruise control I have ever driven was set to drop out after the current speed falls to around 10 mph below the desired speed. Sounds like that is why yours dropped out. Now as to why the truck wouldn't maintain your set speed, that is a good question!
