I think that you just proved yourself wrong, Taz. The dictonary WAS defining motor as an engine and you just reposted it.
This is odie780's wife - notice the correct use of the possessive apostrophe! Please see my comments below! My husband may not be able to spell, but I hardly think that is indicative of a person's intelligence or lack thereof. Personally, I enjoy helping others with their English. I have a classmate and friend who is an international student and it is a pleasure to teach her proper spelling and grammar. My husband has a wonderful mechanical ability. If it were not for him, I would be using my English skills to write checks to mechanically intelligent people for their services. I would think that one would want to visit this site to gain valuable information from these so-called bad spellers, not to bash them for bad spelling!

Sorry, I'm no English major, nor did I imply someone was a moron or stupid,or incapable of being a good mechanic because they couldn't spell very well.
In fact, I don't even see a post of his on this thread.
So, I fail to see where he was offended here.
Did he imply, that people who are better spellers make worse mechanic's?
The moron statement was directed at Taz's co-workers for the engine > motor , and the screws > bolts saga.
I did imply that people should,in my opinion become the best that they could be,and that includes spelling as well as a lot of other things, like being able to do math in their head, not on a calculator.
After all, it was so important when I went to school they had a special subject for it.It was called spelling and you got graded on it.We even had spelling bees & tests.
Not once did I imply Odie was ignorant,or anyone for that matter.
The problem that is all to revelant these days,is the lack of a lot people ,especially students, being able to spell words correctly.
My comment was directed at * When people see words they are reading ,spelled a certain way *.
How is it,that they don't learn and change, instead of continuing to mis-spell words ?
Can you answer that question ?
BTW, I capitalize some words for emphasis, when I want to show even more emphasis,I type in all caps, and then I Do This for really heavy emphasis on a word or subject.
If Odie was offended I apologize,it was meant to bring the spelling issue in this world to light.
I don't get mad, I see where you corrected me and I agree, with what your stated.I will now be more careful, grammar is a lot harder than spelling, I didn't mention it for good reason.
Especially after teachers & school boards in the system have destroyed the old ways of teaching.
So guess what ?
I consider spelling a VERY IMPORTANT part of a book learned EDUCATION
Like the secretary said "typos happen",no big deal.
You don't have to know Language very well to be a GREAT mechanic.
Once again, If I offended Odie for some reason,I apologize
I don't see where I did though.
Should I go get my wife to defend me now ?
