I also experienced similar clicking issues when trying to start but would eventually crank.
I finally suspected the solenoid on the Denso starter (true Denso, not a knockl-off).
I pulled the starter and removed the solenoid cover and whala saw the copper contacts very pitted.
Pitting will not allow enough voltage/current to the starter to crank the truck.
So I carried the starter to my local repairman and within less than one hour he had the contacts replaced and turned down the washer on the plunger on his lathe.
You can see some of these pics in my profile in the starter album. I also tore down a GP relay and found similar pitting causing the same problems there.
So does that mean if I don’t have enough amperage that’s what could be setting off the clicking of the starter relay in the fuse box under the steering wheel? And I would just need to get a stronger battery?

This thread is almost as old as sin so you may have better luck starting a new thread with your specific issues. That said, the starter relay isn't in that fuse box. It's on the passenger fender well next to the battery on that side. Clicking in in the area you're describing usually happens when the batteries are below 10.5v, which is the minimum voltage required by the PCM.
