My aunt has a old 1987 F 150 that has been sitting in a field for about 5 years. It has a lot of rust and is def. in pretty poor condition. I was wondering if y'all thought it was worth it to ask her to give it to me, rob the mirrors from my 83 f150 and then see if i can get it running and sell it? I dont have a lot of expirence with trucks and motors, but i do have some friends who do? Is five years of sitting in a field going to render the truck totally worthless? Thanks for your help.
I just found a Chevelle for a fella that had expired plates by 12 years. I tossed a battery in it and a shot of gas down the carb and it fired up. The main thing to worry about in something that has been sitting, is the condition of the brake lines. Sure it might start but stopping might be a problem. Check it over carefully before you drive it.
check the wiring, and air filter box for mice.mice chew the insulation on wires and leave a bare spot if it touches metal it will short out, unless it's a ground.
thanks yall...quick question...will five years of snow, rain, ice, etc. rust out anything under the truck thats impotant. I have fears that the axle or ballbearing or something like that will be rusted solid. Could this happen?
the rain and snow wont, but grass and dirt is the worst thing to be sitting over, it will rust/rot, EVERYTHIHG under the truck, i ran into this problem when i got my blazer after sitting for 3 years everything was badly rusted.
