Hello all,
Well I just put an offer in on a 1995 Explorer XLT today. It looks like we have to get rid of the ol 85 F150 4x4. She is getting old and we feel like more luxury. I hope I'm making a wise move. The ol truck has been very dependable but her time is come. The guy is taking it in on trade.
I'm not as familiar with the 95 model year as the older ones. Anyone have any hints on this unit or things to watch out for.
That is the first year of the IFS front end and the rounded look and I don't know of any perticular problems with it... but it is a "first run" model year, but I am sure any recalls for it have been done. May want to check the upper and lower control arm bushings on a model that old, but other than that nothing particular.
Make sure the third brake light is working. In '95 Ford went to a neon light that has a ballast. They are both expensive and not just a simple bulb or even LED like the third gen models. The second gen models seemed pretty well put together. Ford didn't do anything radical. Make sure the 4WD is working properly. I've had a '91 and a '95. The '95 is much nicer and handles much better. Good luck.
Thanks for the replies.
Yes the third brake light is fine. The only things I found that I did not like was what looked to be a bad serpentine belt tensioner(crooked) and a few bulbs blown. Other than that not too bad. The only nervy thing is the high mileage...222,450 kilometers. But the thing runs like a charm and has a mint body. I'll keep her!
