I have a intermitant vibration at highway speeds. I have replaced the tires and rims. Installed new motor mounts and trans mount. New shocks and U-joints for the rear shaft. New rotors and brakes. My last resort is Wheel bearings. Has anyone else had this issue with wheel bearings causing a kinda pulsing type of vibration. The truck will ride smooth as silk then get a fast shake that gives ya a headache on long trips. I know alot will say get your tires rebalanced. I have done that as well as tried 3 diffrent types of tires. I now as of friday put on a set of 33 12.5 15 BFG all-terains. This has been a issue for me for the last 2 years. I even had the axels checked just incase they were bent but they are fine.
Any sugestions out there?
Have you checked the pinion nut on the rear axle? I found mine loose - sometimes a "quick and dirty" cinch with the impact gun will snug things up and eliminate the vibration.
not sure exactly but the drive shafts could possibly be out of balance or bent but it would also be worth while to check the wheel bearings
I second that. Especially if the driveshaft was previously put in a vice to remove the u-joints, whether it was you or someone else. I learned that lesson the hard way.
I had a similar problem with the front wheel bearings on my Bronco, and like you I had tried other things such as replacing U-joints and although they did need to be replaced, that was not the cause for the vibrations... I replaced and packed the bearings with grease... You will need a special tool for the adjusting nut and a torque wrench. The vibrations went away as soon as I drove it off the driveway. Somehow, the bearings had become loose even with the lockring in place.... weird! even stranger was it happened to both front wheels!
I may be way off base here...but what about the CV joint? I didn't think about this before, and went nuts trying to find vibrations in my beast, and it ended up being that...just a thought
