First hi everyone. New to the site. Hoping to get good info along the way.
I visit today in regards to a problem my Bronco is having. I'll kinda start at the beginning just for history sake, but keep it short.
Couple weeks ago a road trip from West Palm to Jacksonville my tranny went on I-95. Oh yeah good times kids! That morning I had also had my oil changed. Now I am aware of the fact I've got 2 oil leaks, 1 is the drain pan gasket , the other is rear seal. Since I was getting my tranny rebuilt they were gonna go ahead and replace the rear seal since tranny would be out and only cost me $30 for the seal.
Shop owner said they replaced the seal, they forgot to charge me, no biggie I guess since they got almost $1500 outta me. Needless to say I don't think they did it. Seems to still be leaking.
Now, despite the tranny being rebuilt, it seems to "sputter" when it goes into 3rd gear, sometimes 4th if I'm cruising already but say had to make a dramatric slowdown on the highway and then proceed on. Would this be more of an engine problem or do I need to give the tranny shop a call (rebuild came with a 1 year warranty)? Havent ever been too much into cars and repairs til I got the Bronco. I'm one of those types who likes to know what the heck is goin on. And now for whatever reason, which didn't exist before even with the known oil leaks, I smell some burning when I'm driving. It really seems that it's leakin a tad more than what it was before.
Should I start considering a rebuild before I die on the side of the road again? Kinda tryin to prepare myself for the worst. One of those money is tight type situations and wanna prepare for it. Maybe get it done before it craps out totally. Again it's an 89 with round abouts 143K miles on it.
Thanks all for listenin and I promise all posts from here on out won't be as long!
As for the warranty...I would just take it back and have them fix your 'sputter' for free. Describe what's been happening and they should be able to tell you if it's a transmission problem or something else. Maybe a shift kit would fix it, nothing wild...since I would assume you're a regular driver. Check your valve cover gaskets for oil leaking onto the exhaust manifolds...that will cause a nice aroma of burnt fluids. Check your oil pressure...does it drop to the left when you're stopped at a light or stop sign? If so...it could be time for a rebuild...seeing as you have ~140k miles...your main bearings could be worn out.
OIl pressure is always fine. Of course with the leaks I watch my oil level like a hawk. Don't wanna run outta oil. It;s hard to tell if what I see leaking on the engine is new or old. I have had one gasket replaced already. Could be time for another. This weekend I will be heeding some advice of a fellow FTE user to clean my throttle body. A lengthy detailed discussion led us both to believe that may be the issue as I had already been told it needed to get done. HOwever, any more experiences and suggestions are of course welcome.
