I just purchased the 3 gauge pod and autometer gauges for my 2004 6.0L.
On the instructions it has that if their is a pre-existing 1/8 npt to use that hole for the pyrometer. Do the 6.0 L 2004 model have this pre-existing hole or not. If so where in the heck is it? Is it best to weld the bushing on? if this hole is not there? PLEASE help!!!
No thta I know of....
most go under the truck on the drivers side and drill and tap into the exhaust manifold from the bottom...
do a search for egt gauge and you'll find lot's of discussions about it...
If you are going to tap into the exhaust manifold, be careful as tsheriff said.. As far as for the drilling tapping chips/bits..But also tap it 'very shallow' to start as the manifolds are thin as stated, and its easy to over tap and bottom out the fitting....
thanks, how good would it be to drill into the pipe between the manifold and the turbo and use the clamp that is provided with the autometer gauge setup?

Not that hard to do, but you'll have to peel away some of the pipe insulation to get enough room (close quarters anyway) or 'bare' area between the insulation and pipe/exhaust manifold flange to accomodate the clamp.. I was going to put mine there as well at the start, but decided on the manifold.. Some drill them 'top side' at the Y-pipe next to the turbo.. I drilled mine 'upside down' close to the manifold flange, easy access, and most all of the 'bits' feel down and out of the hole while drillling. (small to large on the bits when drilling) A clean swipe inside with a 'tacky' probe, and it was good to go.. Drilling up higher on the pipe may drop some small bits into the exhaust..Careful there! My only concern for going with a clamp on type probe was vibration, and if the clamp came loose, was, what it might do to the probe.. Either way a fairly easy install... But, make sure that its a 'clean' job..
The pre excisting hole that the gauge manufacturer is refering to, would be in the turbo 'down pipe' exiting or 'after turbo' install.. Usually with an aftermarket exhaust, the fitting already is welded in.. Another option for you would be to drill and install after turbo.. EGT's vary quite a bit, and accuracy may not be as predictable..
Can send you a pic of the manifold install if needed...
thanks, a friend had all of his gauges put in at a local shop. Think that I will let them do it. Real busy and don't have the time to mess with. Thanks for all the info!!!
I'm looking to add some gauges myself, I see there is a 4 Gauge pillar available now and I was looking at putting in the normal gauges(Pyro, Boost, trans and oil presure or engine temp , When adding the trans temp, oil pressure or Engine Temp Gauge will they disable the factory gauges or do the new ones hook up at different points for the new sensors? thanks matt
I had mine done at a local shop. I have only the trans temp that was put on the pillar. the factory gauge still works. I guess they tied into the factory sender somewhere (right next to the trans)

They should not interfere. Most are included with new sending units.
yeh but do you replace the factory sending units so you can use the new gauges or are there additional points to connect the trans and oil pressure gauges. On my old truck I had to us a T fitting in order to use both the factory and after market gauges and was wondering if these were the same way.. thanks
I want to put gauges on my 04...wanted to konw what the issue with warranty is if i pout gauges on...will they void my warranty...is there any way to put them on that can be covered up if needed?...When i put the boost gauge on, is there any way to do it without drilling any holes in my motor...on the egt's, is it best to leave the manifold on or take it off?...thanks guys

No... Ford can't void or 'taylor' your warranty because you've installed gauges.. But, it could cause them to look a 'little closer' in the event of 'major' failure due to a tuner ect.. And of course....say....you lost the turbo, and/or they could pin it down to metal bits from the probe install, or the probe itself.. Or any other issue's/leaks that might be caused by the installs (trans temp,boost,coolant/oil temp ect) that might challenge your warranty if a problem occurs, or at least for 'that' repair.. The edge monitor might be the easiest to hide, but a full compliment of gauges on the pillar, cubby cover or panel ect. would be a bit of a challenge.. Not to mention the wiring.. I drilled my EGT probe into the left manifold (drivers side) close to the manifold flange but upside down, so the bits would fall out of the hole when drilling/tapping.. Then 'swiped' out the finish hole with a 'tacky' probe to make sure nothing was missed.. Worked great.. If the manifold is where you want to mount, start small with the bits, and graduate on up.. Tap the hole 'shallow' as the manifolds are thin! You don't want a loose fitting, or to 'bottom out' the pipe fitting for the probe.. Do a 'quality' install, and warranty should'nt be a problem...
Do a search for probe, EGT ect. and there's alot of pro's and con's as far as location, and installation info as well.. Can send you a pic of my install if needed...
