Testing A/C

My 93 Aero has the original charge of freon. R-12 I think. It still blows a little cold. How do I tell if the system is still working properly or what I need to do to make it work better. I am a cheap and on a tight budget so conversion is out.

First thing I'd do is check the condensor and make sure it's clean, at that point if it's not blowing cold air I'd get a set of guages and check your line pressures 20 something to 40 something on the low pressure side and 140 or so on the highside pressure is about average I think. If all that checks out good check your cooling fan clutch

93 aero is safe to say it is low on freon. My 97 Van was low and I had to have 2 cans added last month. Works great now.

If you are really that cheap, drive with the windows down!

i would go to wall mart and buy the change over kit for about $35. you can do it yourself and be running on r134. did mine a year ago still working and when i need to add freon its only about $4 a can and you can add it yourself. alot better than fooling with expensive r12 that may leak out anyway. one other thing in the upgrade kit is that it also has sealer oil to seal up the system that really brings back old r12 systems.
