Yesterday I was backing out of my driveway and gased the my old inliner a little too hard because It would not keep idle and would die unless I kept constant pressure on the gas peddle. I look at the carburator and noticing it was about to fall apart I took it of and tightened it up. The engine still does not idle long but long enough for me to run around and grab ahold to the gas pedal cable. Now I'm under the hood and it sounds like I have a crack in the exhaust manifold, but I can't find a crack. I wanted to be shure if I blew her up or not so I wrote this thread for some answers.

Brown, I'm looking for a right front fender for my truck. I had an accident a while back and need one that is the color "desert tan".
I'd suggest a rebuild kit for your carb, and some lock-tite on the screws that hold the bottom plate to the carb. That will keep it from backing off and leaking vacuum.
Also a tune-up wouldn't hurt. And possibly an idle adjustment to the carb for when you get it back together after the rebuild.
As for your exhaust manifold crack, it will be loud and obnoxious, but not an indicator that the motor is worn out. Go to a local boneyard and pick one up, or pick up a pair of EFI shorty manifolds with the down pipe. This will let the engine breathe a little better and might net you a few more MPG.
