I've finally got my 48 F1 V10 on the road, three weeks so far. My first trip was from San Francisco to Willows Ca, no trailer, (about an hour north of Sacramento) and I got 19 MPG there and 21 back (slightly down hill for a long while), at about 75 MPH. The next weekend I pulled my racecar and trailer to the same race track in willows, and got 14 there and about 14.5 back.
I did end up using cats, and a o2 sensor behind them. The truck sounds great, not far from what an old truck should sound, just a little louder. It kind of sounds like an old straight 6, but its got tons of power. It pulled great, up hills was no problem at all. It felt like I was pulling with a much bigger truck.
The motor is very smooth, and strong.
Thanks for all your bits of information here, some I asked for, and some I've found on my own.
There's also some other pics in my gallery of the build up.
I know.. I know... I've got to build me a new air box..

Reason: addition
The motor is a 2002 motor, from ford with zero miles. Great idea for the air box... I was thinking about moving the sensor into the smaller pipe, then building a box with filter to catch air from the nose of the 48's hood. Thanks all for the compliments...
The trans is a "used" 2000 4R100 automatic, and the harness I used is from the 2000 F250 the trans came from. Also got the fuel rails and a bad alt. from the same 2000 f250 (had 1200 miles on it before they crashed it). I spent hours tracing down what wires were what, and getting rid of hundreds of wires that I didn't use.
Are you putting a v10 in your 73 fastback...? I've been thinking that a datona coupe cobra would be nice with a v10 in it..... hmm...
Actually I'm putting one into a 71 Boss 351. I have 2 v10s right now and tons of wiring that I've been tracing. I'm kind of stalled right now because my mustang is at Grigg's racing's headquarters up at Sear's point where they're making a custom front suspension for it.
Cool, I'm up at sears all the time... are you a shelby club member? we have lots of open track events that are great fun, at sears in September... If you get stuck, or have any questions with your v10 stuff, feel free to email me. The best email address to email me at any time is the initial "s" at usmusicians dott com.
Also if you want info about open tracking, talk to bruce or the guys at griggs or give me a hollar too.
