I have a 2004, 250, FX4, SRW, SWB, 4SA, with the V10 and I was thinking about putting a Supercharger on it too keep up with these 400+HP Diesels around here. My truck has the Highway gears in it so if I put 35" tires, I will probaly need more power anyway. Anybody eveer put one on? If so, What did ya'll gain and, How hard was it?
Don't know the exact gain. If you go by the numbers, you should be good for about 50% increase in both hp and torque. It was a days job, nothing too hard but I did have excellent help. Downside, getting the power to the ground. I have 3.73s and just the slightest bit too much gas and the tires are boiling. There really isn't any in between. There is for sure a learning curve involved the first few days.
Hang10, just curious if you modded the tranny at all to accomodate the extra power, or are they just that strong? (considering a whipple myself, but dont want to dump another grand in the trans)
get your gears changed. try the 4.56, you'll be impressed at your acceleration, and if you put the bigger tires on, it will more than compensate for it. As far as a supercharger I'd say go with the whipple.

I have a 6 speed manual. No modification necessary. If I recall correctly, the chart I saw on the ZFMeritor site (the maker of the ZF-6) It is rated up to 850-950 ft lbs. So, I am well below the limit with the 660 ft lbs or so that I am putting out. They use this transmission up into the 7 class trucks, GM uses it up into 8 class. I don't think we can make enough in our 2 and 3 class' to break it. (fingers crossed).
A supercharger is nice on a V10... but expensive, and you can forget about those fantasies of blowing off 400+ HP diesels with your supercharged V10. It ain't gonna happen.
Never seen a 400+ hp Diesel. Just heard the fantasies of those that think they are on every street corner. I really got mine to help give me grunt when I tow. Besides, never had a whole lot of problems blowing off Diesels before the Charger.

It already happens, without the supercharger, so what in the world are you talking about!!!!!!!!!! For the millionith time, the Diesel is no racer!!!!!!!!!!!
Instead of 3 truck lengths behind, you'll be about 6-7

Nobody's talking about a stock diesel and I run into quite a few modified diesels putting out around 400HP. When they are... the torque is also around 1000 foot pounds. But then again... go ahead and spend $3500+ for a supercharger... what do I know... I've only had a supercharged V10 for 2 years now!
I can't speak for anyone else but like I said, I didn't buy mine to race. I haven't seen a lot of modified Diesels, other than a chip maybe. In fact, I have driven a few Diesels, some chipped. While they were quick for as big and heavy as they are, still don't have the acceleration, or the mid range pull that the V10 does. However, on the other hand, I didn't drive anything with near a half ton of torque and would have to admit, that would be very hard to beat. So why do you dislike your chargers so much, why do you feel they are a waste of money?
