are you talking abou the distributor rotor?
it should be pointed approximately at the number one cylinder wir when the crank is at top dead center (TDC). the valves on teh number one cylinder will be closed and the piston will be at the top of the cylinder.
the rotor spinds counter clock-wise looking from the top of the dizzy.
