"ALT" Light on ?

"ALT" Light on ?
I have a '94 Aerostar and the "ALT" light on the dash just came on yesterday. Today as I was getting ready to pull & replace the alternator, I checked it before I pulled it. No load, everything off Bat shows 12.6 volts.
Running Bat shows 14.6 volts.
Looks like the alt is fine to me.
What could be causeing the "ALT" light to be on all the time ?
10 yrs. old & 180,000+ miles on the Aerostar doesn't make me want to drive it very far with the light telling me "something" is wrong.

well i got a friend who owns a alt shop an he told me they have seen this all the time with a 3 g alt an its the single wire is got dirt an corrosion on it . so just clean it up an a bit of electrice grease an it should be ok . if the alt light comes on an your volts drop then u have a problem
