Driveshaft Help

Here is my project:

1967 F100 shortbox 2wd to 1975 F250 Highboy chasis......

The wheelbase on the '75 is 133" and the wheelbase on the '67 is 115"

I have a divorced NP203 transfer case in the '75 and when I chop my frame down to 115" the driveshaft is going to be too short.

Right now there is roughly 17" of tube before the slip yolk on the rear driveshaft.

I need to cut 18" out of my frame to fit my body. Is it possible to run a driveshaft, or what are my options? Sorry, this is probably a dumb ? but I am a newbie and this is my first 4 wheel drive frame up project. I know I could probably get an NP205 and marry it to my C6, but I'd like to keep it like it is for simplicity.

I have taken pictures with a tape measure and if what I'm saying doesn't make sense I will email pictures to someone and have them post them for me.

Thanks

Okay, I'm not entirely clear on what your asking. Do you mean you need to have your current driveshaft cut down? If so thats no big deal. You should have a local shop who can cut and balance it for you. Or do you mean the ds angles are going to be too severe once its chopped? If thats the case I can recomend www.highangledriveline.com. Both myself and Ho run those, along with many, many guys who are uber hard on their drivelines.

I'll hope on board with proeliator's suggestion about high angle drive line.

I have one, and it's amazing. It's not a froofy looking as some after market shafts, but it's a great piece of work. if form follows function, it's a work of art. I dont think I could brake the u-joints if I tried. Plus, they give military a discount. Take advantage, if you are able.

Although after watching that *explicitive* jessy james trash an early bronco with 2 of their drive shafts on board, I know it CAN be done. Bending them in half on a rock will do it.

By the way, proeliator, I was looking at the shaft I have from them today, after I pulled it and got to thinking. What do they do with the shaft that a local shop couldnt do? Besides the fact that they over build it without ragging on you about "you dont need that!"?

I dont think the local shops could do the flanges and yokes..maybe I'm wrong..but is the shaft actually anything special? (I know I'm kinda sorta negating what I said above, but they really are amazing.)

Well, they do a couple of different things. You can order it with thicker wall steel (which I did) so you won't bend it in half like knucklhead jj did. Then there lots of small tweaks that jesse does to make them last longer. Welded welch hole and the cv joint is so customized its patented. Plus, if you trash the ds chances are Jesse will replace it for free. Get your local shop to do that. I'm a firm believer. Good choice man.

I'll post some pics shortly for you to see.

From where I am measuring it is roughly 31"

I need to cut 18" out of this shaft. The main body of the shaft is 17"

What do I do? Will I need to have a custom shaft made?

Pro,

What do you mean by a custom intermediate shaft? Sorry for all the Noob questions lately. I'm trying to get my frame ready for my body ASAP before wheat harvest starts in the next few weeks.

Never mine, I was looking at it squidgy and edited my reply but you musta been hella quick on the draw. I took a quick glance, saw the short shaft and thought your were measuring the intermedite shaft rather than the rear.

i dont think a custom shaft would even do it it would have to be only 13 inches long. are you going to lift the truck?

Jesse,

I measured the shaft between the transfer case and trans but forgot the length.

So if I gave Jess a call at High Angle Driveline he would be able to hook me up with a shaft?

I was planning on lifting the truck, but now I am going to leave it as it is and run 34x10.50x16 LTB Super Swampers.
