Better sounds.

I have a 2003 F250 CC. I replaced all four stocks with 6X8 Infinitys and I have 2 12's in separate boxes behind my rear seat. I'm looking for some better overall sound. I'm thinking some 6 1/2's in the rear doors (custom job) and some tweets in the pillars between doors, and maybe another 12? Any suggestions?

Seperates will be better using proper placement. Putting the tweets in higher spots will bring the soundstage closer to the dash.

put some amplified components up front. mids in the doors or kickpanels and tweeters in the dash or upper doors angled towards you. you can probably buy, if not make adapter plates to fit those round speakers into the 6x8 opening. or you can get 5x7 components. feed them plenty of clean power and adjust the EQ. that should help out alot with your quest. as for the subs... 2 12's should be plenty of bass if theyre 1) decent subs 2) in the right enclosure 3) getting enough power. if its not... check one of those three variables before adding another sub. adding one more sub means you will need more power and another enclosure and it probably wont improve sound very much, if at all. jus more bass overpowering your mids. well thats what i think at least...

if you want the best, go with kicks with 6.5's, 8" woofers in the doors, tweeters firing into the winshield on the a pillar and use an eq. i'm assuming you already have an aftermarket cd player. but without doing all the custom work, a good component set upfront will help immensly. make sure to amp all the mids and highs also. i know you can fit 6.5's in a 6x8 hole. just make a mounting plate to seal off the gap and line your doors with dynamat. this will help with any resonance in the door.

I have never used dynamat.. on the doors, do you take off the plasticthat covers the door, or put it on over it?

i put it on over the plastic, but i'm thinking of taking it off and putting it on the door skin. just make sure you clean it real good with alcohol.

I am thinking of putting my rear 6.5's in the rear doors the same as you. Did you have enough room for the depth of the speaker. I was curious if the window has enough clearance. I also used dynomat on all 4 doors and 2 layers on the rear wall and it made a huge difference. I used the stock pieces for a template and then put it back on top of the dynamat when I was done..
