cruise control
I looked for the CC fuse in my Ranger service manual & didn't find it. The horn relay is part of the circuit. So is the cigar lighter. Your cigar lighter fuse is good, right?
We'll just have to wait for an expert to post the correct answer.
AL.
1. Brake lite circuit, fuse #___ which provides CC with verification that brake circuit is active since it operates on a NO switch. This is a circuit B4 the ignition switch, so it should be hot all the time.
2. Accessories circuit, fuse # ___ which provides power to operate the CC module under the hood as well as other assessories. This circuit is after the ignition switch.
3. Horn circuit, fuse# ___ which provides power for horn relay, horn switches AND the CC control switches on the steering wheel. This circuit is after the ignition switch. This circuit passes thru 3 of the slide wires on the steering wheel. If any one of these 3 slides malfunction the CC system will malfunction. Also, the CC control circuit includes a set of resistors with the switches at the steering wheel. The impedence of the circuit, as altered by pressing a switch, is monitored at the CC module under the hood. The circuit uses only 2 wires to send switch commands to the module. If any of the resistors have failed, the CC system will malfunction.
Hope this helps. Fuse numbers coming in separate reply later.
Fuse 5, cab fuse box, 15A: Hot on Run. Feeds CC power directly to pin 7.
Fuse 13, cab fuse box, 20A: Hot all times. Feeds deactivation switch, NC position, then goes to pin 9. (Forgot this circuit in my last post -- memory is going!)
Fuse 15, cab fuse box, 5A: Hot all times. Feeds brake (NO) and clutch (NC) position switches, then to pin 4.
Fuse 7, battery fuse box under hood, 20A: Hot all times. Feeds horn relay and switch, and CC control switches on steering wheel. See previous posting for further explanation of this circuit. Two wires connect the control switches to the CC module, pins 5 & 6.
Also, speed sensing system sends pulse proportional to speed to pin 3.
And finally, lamps in control switches are fed from instrument lamp dimmer circuit.
Look for problems:
All of the 4 fuses must be OK for CC system to function. Before replacing fuse, check for short circuit which would point to wire harness problem.
Control circuit passes thru 4 slide wires on steering column. Any one malfunction would cause CC system to malfunction. Check for continuity in each for the entire steering wheel travel. These are difficult to repair.
There are 4 resistors in the control circuit located at the steering column assembly. If any one is either open OR short, CC system will malfuntion.
Lots of places to look. Advice is free -- use your own judgment. Not all free advice is good advice.

So does this mean that if everything else works, horn etc.,but one or more of the lights on the Cruise Control switches don't work, then it will shut the thing down?
