I got a 94 f-150 4x4 with an inline 6. Dont get me wrong, the trucks got nut, but not enough. I love the reliability of the inline. Would it be worth going to the 302? Is it hard to slap in? With the computer learn the engine? Do i need to change the wiring harness? Just a few questions. Thanks Matt
swaping from a six to a 302 is a waste of time. The 300 pulls harder at low rpm, and has no problem staying with a 302 at any time (in trucks) a 351 would be a better swap as mentuioned earlier. You will need the computer, and wiring harness for the donor 351 vehicle, as well as radiator, exhaust, etc.
I had a 300 six in my truck and it was great. I could out pull and out run the 302 with it. I did do some work to it though. It was bored 30 over had a cam forged pistons offenhouser intake with a 600 edelbrock carb amd hedderman headers.
If you really want a V-8 I would consider the 351. I am currently upgrading my truck to a 460 so I will have the low end tourqe and house power to move my 44's..
Can the fuel injectors be used in the 351? I have an inline 6 that I'd like to swap out to a 351. The fuel system was R&R'd at 100,000 miles and the injectors have only 30K on them. They cost me a small fortune the first time.
Also, where does one find a doner vehicle? A junk yard? Is there a web site that I can go to locate one?
If you change from 6 cyl to V8 you will need a chip for a V8,can't reuse the Six chip. You will also need a V8 wiring harness,if you don't get one with the donor vehicle Ford Racing sells them. Not cheap though. Summit racing also sells Ford racing parts and painless wiring, probably cheaper. Depending on how much you want to spend you can probably get a cam that gives better low end power. You can do an internet search on salvage yards and send them e-mails on what you want. The injectors from the 6 are PROBABLY the same but I would call a parts store to be sure. Just ask them if the injector part numbers are the same for both engines. You'll need two more anyway.
